Last week, we got a new unit called “inventor and inventions”. Then we watched brain pop about 2 inventors and their inventions. And we talked about each of their main qualities, and we maid a conclusion that there are some qualities which mostly all of the inventors have like: intelligence, creative and many others.
Microscopes
Now, today, microscope plays a big role in our lives, and makes our lives even better and easier, but no one actually knows who and how they made it so this is the who and how:
The role of microscope.
Microscope is a laboratorial optical system for viewing tiny objects that are too small to be seen by the human eye. The science of investigating tiny objects using this optical system is called microscopy.
In the 1st AD glass was invented by Romans. The Romans tried to use glasses with different shapes and it worked. They discovered that, by using the glass when it has thick middle and thin edge, it can make things look larger. They called them lenses. An unknown person discovered that the lens can start a fire when it’s focused the rays of the sun with these lenses. In the mid 13th century few people tried to produce lenses to be used as glasses. And it worked. The early microscopes were just magnifying glasses. They put some glasses in a tube and made a huge discovery. The object at the end of the tube appeared huge, larger than magnifying glasses. Galileo Galilee heard about the new discovery and started trying to do one of his own microscopes. He described all the principles of the lenses and the sun rays (light rays) and “improved” the microscope and telescope. He developed compound microscope which has convex and a concave lens. He, Galileo Galilee, explored the world with his very own telescope.
Now, everyday microscopes are being used to make a lot of scientific discoveries, which leads to new way of living and it helps to keep us alive too. If we didn’t have any microscopes we would probably be dying in age of 30-40 without knowing our bodies and other scientifical objects like medicine.
Evaluation
My design specification was just simple.
Design specification said that
• It will be easy to do
• It must be cheap, affordable for everyone
• It has to be useful for the user
• Good looking
• It has to be safe for everyone, especially for children, animals
• Eco friendly
• Must be useful, plus, everyone must want it
• So perfect that not everyone can improve it
• Everyone must like it
I think the whole idea was good, because no one actually created something against flood, maybe there are some, but not for gers and im happy with my creation.
My design specification said that it can be affordable for everyone, but I think this is not possible because you will need a lot of metal and a lot of diggings to do, and the tubes are really expensive, especially if your ger is not close to the river, then, it will cost you more. And there is no way I can change the price because these things like metal cannot be replaced.
I said that it will be easy to do, but it was wrong, I change my plans and me designs a lot of time, the 1st design was really easy to do, but the last one even better but, it costs a lot. About the eco friendly part, even if we are using metal, there is no better way to make it more eco friendlier.
From the test, I made some conclusions like the tubes are too small and the tube around the ger is very small, so next time, when I do it, I would probably think about making it bigger and wider. Plus, some people complained about the flood going into the river. Well, river is of course natural and flood is natural too, and the fence on the tube saves river from getting polluted from trash coming inside. So everything is natural, which means it is ok to do it.
In the investigation, I was just sitting there thinking about the 1st design which was the cheapest and easiest, but then I thought what should I do with the water inside the hole? And I came up with another idea, which was hard and expensive, but really simple. I just plan everything, and then made the designs; maybe I could even better ideas if I planned it.
In the Plan, I had to, of course plan everything, but I forgot all about how I am going to do it in a such a short time because I had lost of homework’s to do, so my plan turned out to be not accurate and hard to follow, and the changes were just great, it made everything much more complicated and in the other hand easy to do. So if I had to do everything again, I would definitely look at my other plans and make a perfect one.

1st design
My 1st design was just the reflection what i had in my mind first. I didn't do anything special to it i just copied it from my mind without changing so that my other 2 designs would be even more better

But my 1st design had the half of these things. It is hard to do, because in most of my design you need cement, and doing something with cement is really hard, and digging holes...
And when its hard to do it, then obviously its not going to be cheap, its impossible for all my designs to be cheap.
For the user, it is very useful, i think. Because lots of people suffer from flood. And if somebody uses my idea, at least 60% of getting into a flood “attack” is prevented.
All my designs are good looking, especially my 2nd design. It is very simple.
The safety problem is the big problem. My 1st 2 designs are safe, but my 3rd one is not.
To prevent flood, i think almost everyone might want to have it because life is more important than money. So i think people will buy my product if it was possible.
I think my 2nd design is almost perfect. And somebody might want to change my 1st and 3rd idea, because it might use some more improvement.
1st 2 is OK, everyone might want it, but not my last one, because it is hard to use.
1st design) my 1st design is kind of OK, but the most wrong part is where you have to dig so many holes. And things like cement and metals for protection is really hard to build with. And the water which goes from the hole to the big hole cant go anywhere. And if you have a huge flood than the water might go over the big hole and it is the big problem. If the hole is cement than its not going to collapse. But after the flood the water cant be used, and no where to go, unless it disappears.
2nd design) my 2nd design is the best. It is kind of similar to the 1st one, but the great part is that there is no big hole. The water, using the tube, is going to the nearest river or at least a dead river sot hat it wont go into other gers. And the ger is a lot higher than the usual ground. And the hole is going to be 10 cm lower than the ger. The other great thing about is that the tube is going to be connected to the closest river and if more people are going to use it, and if they live close to each other, they connect their tubes and the make a 1 big hole going to the river. I don't worry about the river because the flood water is OK, its natural, so it wont pollute the river, and the small holes around the ger protects from garbage's. So the water coming from the ger district is going to be a lot cleaner than a normal flood water.
My 3rd design is the worst one. I thought that it would be good, but then i realized that it is not safe. It is a little bit higher than the ger, and its going to be hard for the people living there, and for children, and it is not really that good looking. But the good thing about it is that unlike the 1st one, the water is going inside the hole like around 70 percent, without going to another place, it wont change its direction.
My chosen design is the 2nd one, and its the best! Because its almost perfect. It is simple, and i wont hurt other peoples gers, and its kind of easy to do, and it can be used for almost 100 years, because you use cement and metals.

Bayanzurkh Ger District, Mongolia

And the project that we are doing may affect the community, the people who are surrounding us, by teaching something really small, but helpful for the others. Something small, can make a big difference. And this is what we are aiming for. And we have to make a technology or make and old technology better, improve it to make life easier.
Word Bayanzurkh itself means Rich Heart, which is a really pretty name, but the place itself, is not that pretty like its name. Ger District, one of the most hardest places to live, although some might think its a really ugly place, but the vibe inside is really colorful. The people who live there aren’t really poor, and there are people who think that living there another adventerous way to live their lives. Most of them don’t have phones, running water, and electricity,but there are few, only few. To get water they have to go to the water station, only the lucky ones live near the water station, but others have to get their water byt carrying them, and it affects their health, when they carry heavy things it may affect their spines, bones, etc. And especially carrying water in winter when its -30 outside.
My feild trip was fine, but worse than before, i was surprised by how the GD got bigger. Plus, the people who live there surprised me by their attitudes, some of them were realy nice, and some of them were really greedy. I remember when we were in our bus heading for the other community center, and i saw a teenager pointing his finger at us.i didnt expect something like this. But i noticed that they have a bad picture of us, “the lazy people” who does everything ith their money and dont work at all, because money can do anything. Well, this is what they think. And some of us, have a bad picture of them too, still, “the lazy people” who doesnt do anything but drinking alcohol. And for me, i think that it’s going to take time to clear these thoughts out of everybodies mind. What i learned it how it feels to live there, but i can’t say i know how it feels to live there, i just tasted a bit of it, by building a fence and even visually, by wactching how they are living there. When i went there. I found some ideas, to make their lives just a little bit better. And i hope this idea is a good one.
The technologies which people who live in the ger district people uses are not eco friendly, but it is cheap to make it, and very logical to design it, which means just easy for a 5 year old to design it. The fences, toilets, they are all made of wood, and mongolia is not really that rich in wood, so everytime they keep getting wood from the forest, the cost is going to get up, because wood in mongolia is getting less and less. To make technologies like toilet better is really hard, and expensive too, but i think that the expensive one is much better than paying 5000 tugriks for a sack of wood in the future. I would recommend using metal for wood, and it wont break, and the posibility to get stolen is way much lower than wood, and it isnt really that eco friendly, but it saves woods.
Whenever there is a way to prevent ger dictrict from ruining health or nature, it becomes expensive, so it is hard for them to afford it, and hard for us to stay “alive”, since things like pollution is expensive. The things that keeps them warm is metall, and you can use them for a long time. But the thing it burns is trash, and garbage, so to avoid pollution some people are buying a coal which doesn’t create smoke. It is just a little bit expensive, but not that expensive to afford. So some people use it...
Life in ger district is harsh and full of pain and suffering, but not all of them. Some people who live their are happy with what they have. In UB, some people spend 10$ for a peice of ham. And this 10$ can do magic in GD. You can buy food, water, wood, coal. Which are the main things they need. I saw fences all around the gers. And the fences play a big role in their life. It secures, it keeps things private, and it keeps things from getting stolen. And if you dont have a fence, things like your toilet can be stolen. Stealing a toilet sounds weird, but they do, by breaking their wood, and burning them for warmth. The fences were ok, but some of them were too short, or they had holes in it, which is really bad. The fences could be better designed, even though its really expensive, but its worth making them better.
What i found out is that some people think that no matter how hard you try it wont make any difference, they got used to their lives and they just cant imagine living in the city with running water and electricity. And there are some people, trying to show them that they can make a difference but trying their best and by being patient.
The person who gave us these informations are mrs.wilson, mr.tvrdik, mr.chilton, sukhee. Mrs.wilson showed us a powerpoing presentation about the ger district, mr.tvrdik helped us by building a fence and organaziing the feild trip, mr.ch

For this project, I’m going to design a something against floods. It and it is going to be very easy one, which won’t need that much money, and it will take time to actually make it, but you’ll need olnly few tools. The reason why i chose this product is because last summer, lots of people suffered from floods, and because of it, the diseases increased and lots of people are homeless and starving now. So, i decided, this is perfect for my product. One of the simplest designs of my product is just to dig a big and kind of deep hole around the ger, and it whenever the water comes closer to the ger, the hole get fill, and there is going to be a small slope so that the water could go into another direction, wherever the slope is looking. In my mind, i made so many designs, and im still planing how to make a perfect one. My design is something cheap, just like the toilet, it may take time. And when i finish it, to make sure it is good, i’m going to take a survey from my classmates. The survey has only few, plus, important questions. And they survey is going to look like this:
· Does this look useful to you, and why?
· Would you make it yourself if it was one of your chances to escape the flood? And why?
· What would you add if you had to? And why?
· What do you like about it and what don’t like about it? And why?
I hope that this small survey will actally tell me if i did a good job or not. And im sure that this will help me a lot.
For this product, you will only need shovel, and a really flat hard wood, and cement (Optional). If the user decides to use cement, then the profuct will be very good, and it is going to be there almost forver, if you use cement.

For this product, you will only need shovel, and a really flat hard wood, and cement (Optional). If the user decides to use cement, then the profuct will be very good, and it is going to be there almost forver, if you use cement.
Design specification:
· It will be easy to do
· It must be cheap, affordable for everyone
· It has to be useful for the user
· Good looking
· It has to be safe for everyone, especially for children, animals
· Eco friendly
· Must be useful, plus, everyone must want it
· So perfect that not everyone can imrpove it
· Everyone must like it
Plus, im going to make sure everything i need to use for this product is cheap, by checking their price. The reason why i wrote good looking is because for people who visit the place it has to be attractive, and they might think like “i want the same thing, it’s a good idea...”
So, i think that my product is very useful and cheap, plus, safe, which are the main things in my product.

Me, my idea, my thoughts, and my opinion, and I only use my brain, not anyone else’s. it is very difficult to come up with an idea, a creative idea, like a song, poem, or anything you like, but when somebody uses it, it just makes you burn inside, and when that time, all that effort you put in your work is being copied, or edited without your permission you just feel like you wasted your time and hard work for somebody who has no idea how you did it, how hard you tried to do it…
Internet, you can post pictures, blogs, music that you’ve created, but everything is almost free here, but there is something that most of the people don’t like, because copying works can hurt, a lot, and some people just don’t understand, and just don’t care about how you did it, and who did it, and it’s just selfish…
Few years ago, there was a hit song called “Girlfriend” by Avril Lavigne, and people around the world liked it, a lot, but some people didn’t, because this song was plagiarized. In the late 70s there was a song called “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend” which sounded just like Avril Lavgnes song. Even in the lyrics, there is a line like “hey hey you you I could be your girlfriend” sounded similar to the 70s song lyric “hey hey you you I wanna be your boyfriend”. The Rubinoos certainly didn’t like their song plagiarized. Maybe the court will deal with this work, but to come to think about it, maybe the new “I wanna be your boyfriend” song is kind of good, but for some people, its not, their hard work has been disrespected by this girl, and it has been used. Any human being would feel bad if their work is being copied, and of course, she got a lot of money and respect from the people around her, using somebody’s work.
