Career Plan: Evaluation

Evaluation
The whole career planning unit went really well. 1st, I had to know a lot about myself, so that I can choose my career. It actually helped a lot. Finding that I am an ESPF showed me that I can become an artist. So, I thought about choosing artist as my future career. So, investigating my self was interesting and kind of made me enjoy this unit. It also helped me to kind of research the college I want to go and a specific job, not just as an artist but a street artist. I found my college that I wanted for now, so it’ll help me in the future. The investigation not just helped me to know myself, but it also helped me by giving me chance to think about my future in 9th grade. So, when I come to 11t grade, thanks to this unit, I’ll be 1 step closer to choose my college, it will be easier for me.
During this unit, I also learned about resumes and how to use windows movie maker. Even though I used windows movie maker before, this time, I learned more things. I also learned what is relevant in a video and what’s not. When I finished the video, I used movie maker. Then, when I came to school I wanted ha young to see my video and give me feedback, but I forgot my video at home. So I had to ask my art teacher Mrs. Oyunaa to watch my video because I didn’t have IT class.
These are the things she told me:
• You didn’t include that you visit the art gallery once week, even though its not a big deal it might have shown you interest in art
• You forgot to mention that you taught children how to use oil paints on glass 4 times
• Also, you forgot to talk about the music classes you took because music is a type of art. This might help if you include it because you cannot draw without listening to music.
After hearing the feedback I realized that I missed some things, but the last feedback was more of a weakness because I cannot paint without listening to music. It is true that I play musical instruments but I don’t think I would add that fact to my video later on. Even thought music is a type or art I don’t think it would have any connection to painting even thought it sets up the mood for painting.
In the other criteria’s I tried to answer all the question but some were really hard to answer. So I can’t say I tried my best. I think I did a really bad job on design and create and I can’t really tell why I couldn’t do a good job because I really don’t know. This is a pathetic excuse but I really didn’t see any connection with these 3 criteria’s.
Overall the whole unit went really good and helped a lot and will help me in the future.

Design

Design
I have only 2 choices.
1st choice is artist. I like drawing but only when I feel like it. When I don’t feel like it, I chose don’t enjoy it and I do not try my best. But doing art for the rest of my life is not that bad, because I never get bored of it. To do this I need some art skills, but not all of them because it is not possible. My life time goal is to draw the horsehead nebula which is kind of impossible, but I’m going to make it possible somehow. To be an artist, I can go to whatever country I want to, because it is very famous all over the world. Also, I’m not going to be just an artist but an artist who works on designs of walls, furniture, and other things by painting. So, in other words, I want to be a painter.
What do I need?
Now, I’m already preparing to become a painter, so I take classes outside of school for 4 hours a week. Sometimes when I’m free I go there also. I’m learning a lot of things but still I’m not that good. I have another 7 years to learn. My art teacher suggested me to become and artist. To do this there is a school in Mongolia called arts education near the UB hotel. It is small, but good and cheap.
To actually and officially become an artist I have to finish and arts school or college. To go to a college or university I obviously need to finish this school. When I go, I have to go somewhere close, countries such as Korea, China, Taiwan, Russia. I’m mostly interested in South Korea because it is close, and I am also learning Korean. Taiwan would also work, because I’ve actually checked the universities in Taipei, and they had everything that I wanted to learn. Also, I got used to Taipei, which is a big plus. The streets, places are familiar with me, and I also have people I know there. I don’t want to go somewhere alone without any people I know, so these places are good for me. So, these things also matter for my career choice.
To be successful in my career:
• Finish school
• Finish college or a university
• To get a master’s degree at least (If you get it, you’ll have more chance to be successful)
• After finishing everything, keep on learning, going to random places, and taking new classes
These are the things that I think I need to be successful.

Think about your interests...
What do you like to do?
Mostly, i enjoy choosing things, which is weird, but i like to chose betweem things, anything. It makes me feel kind of important, and i like deciding which is better and which is not.
Think about experiences you have enjoyed. What kind of school, religious, social, or sports activities do you like?
I like playing volleyball and i enjoy talking ot random people.... which i count as an activity.
Make a list of 10 activities you have enjoyed doing in the past four years:
1) Belly Dancing
2) Singing (even though i can't)
3) Playing Volleyball
4) Walking around the city alone
5) Drawing
6) Reading
7) Traveling
8) Playing Horse Fiddle
Evaluate those interests. Think about what you liked about the avtivitie. What challenges did the activities offer? Whats skills do you need to develop further to continue in those activities?
I'm not into those logic types of activities so, maybe I should think more about making my right brain better because mostly i use my right brain because i hate logic types of things, so, my left brain is not really that good. Also, I don't care if im not left brained because I won't be using it that often, so i would like to imporve my creativity because almost everything i do need creaivity, imagination and those kinds of things.
Concider your skills...
Evaluate school, volunteer, work, or leisure experiences:
I'm not that into school activities, but what I do like is staying after school and doing things in the art room. Nothing else.
Make a list of your school activities (clubs, organizations to which you belonged). Make a list of any volunteer work you have done (either through social, civic or religious organizations).
I dont think that I did any volunteer work.
Possible Careers:
Artist, Internation relations, wallpaper designer, graphics designer.
I think the problem with these careers is that my parents wont like it because they think that i won't be able to live a good life...

Modern Shakespeare Evaluation

Modern Shakespeare
This project didn’t go well at all. People weren’t that enthusiastic about it. It took a lot of time, and for me, and English b student, I had nothing to do. It would go well if we were a little bit positive about it and something that would keep on pushing us, plus, something for English b students to do.
My job was to prepare make up, plan the dresses and the settings. So I did that last two parts, and I couldn’t do the make up part because we didn’t actually go to that part. I think that my job was very easy, but others had to do things such as acting. I also did the posters, which is just hanging there for no reason.
I don’t have any ideas to make this project better. Even though it was interesting, fun but something was pulling me back. If I had to do it again I would do it when people are here, most of them, since we had ACAMIS, some were waiting, and doing something and others were just sitting there. For improvements also, we could try getting a script which is more interesting and fun to keep us going
So, the overall project failed. We couldn’t do anything about it.

Investigation: Modern Shakespeare

Modern Shakespeare
Investigation
Today we started a new unit called modern Shakespeare. The whole unit is about bringing Shakespeare in to the modern world. The unit question is “How can we create a video presentation of a Shakespeare play that will appeal to modern day viewers”. For this unit we chose communicators because the unit helps students to look at new ways of interpreting old material in order to increase our understanding of it. Our final project is to make a video. We have to come up with a way to present Shakespeare’s work, like bringing it to the modern world somehow. To do this we are going to make a video, using modern techniques so that people can understand easily. My part for this unit is just to help to set up the video and other things since I’m in English b. I will not be reading, maybe I will have to. The materials are simple. Camera, computer, some tools for the skit are going to be used.
So the unit question is “How can we create a video presentation of a Shakespeare play that will appeal to modern day viewers”, and my understandings are we are going to test it and see if we can make it modern. The study of Shakespeare is important because he is kind of like a door to the modern literature, and without him, literature would not be a big deal in modern days. Plus, via Shakespeare, we can have a glimpse to their society, to his time.
I think this unit will just show me how everything changed through time and how it changes. Also, I think I’m going to learn a little bit of literature and Shakespeare himself. I don’t really know about Shakespeare because I studied only Russian and Mongolian Literature, and all I heard is that he is really good and he is a mastermind in literature. But I believe ill learn more about him.
I don’t have an answer to this unit but I’m kind of thinking about seeing what will come out of this unit, what will happen. I cannot answer this unit question because the question how is really hard to answer. Maybe it will not make a pretty good deal for the modern day viewers because taste matters. Everyone thinks differently and prefers different things. It actually depends on the viewers. But since we are doing it, I think it is going to be better for the viewers understand because the people who are making it (us) are also kind of modern, so we know what will modern day people will understand and what wont they understand.
These are the things that we have to research:
Video (editing)
TV shows (news)
Talk show
Background
Spark notes
Movie
Also, before i research i need to know some things about shakespeare and his vocabulary.
When i asked our classmates about shakespeare they said that his words are really hard to undrestand because the vocabulary is very old and it is hard to understand his plays because they have meanings hidden and many other reasons.
We chose tsolmons play, the Iris show which is kind of easy for me to understand, and my job is to do the make up and plan the clothes, settings also. we have teams, english a students are all in the play, the esl students are just helpinh them to make the video, people who are good at technology such as min jae has to work on the video and edit it.

Evaluation: Plan

I didnt have any problems with the plan, i did follow the plan, i tried a lot, but it had soem changes because some days, i just finished everything, but at the end, i failed following the plan because my printer stopped working, so i had to print it out on the day when i had to present it. but the over thing went very well...
So i wrote down all the changes.

Bikini(plan)

Inv. Bikini

Our Unit Question was called “how do inventors come up with ideas and create their inventions?” We all chose our inventions to research and try to answer the unit questions using any form they like: PowerPoint, video, music, art, or anything.
My chosen invention was a bikini. I thought it would be interesting and it is easy to answer the unit question if you have an invention like this. It is interesting, which means I might be even more motivated. If we do a lot of research, we can actually understand how important is it and how important the inventors idea was no matter what it is. When we started doing this I realized how everything we use changed us, and I’m learning a bit of how relevant it is to know who the inventor is and how he came up with the idea.
To present my idea, I’m going to be using a poster because it is easy and I’m better at presenting something using a poster, I think it’s is easy to understand too. My sources were simple because it had something to do with fashion, design.

These are the tests (for the poster):
Does it answer the unit question?
Are the recourses from acknowledged?
Can my project give me a good grade?
Are the inventions relevant?

How did bikini change through time?
Bikini was invented in the 40s, since then, it became fashion and influenced a lot of people. Nowadays, most women wear bikinis, some sports require bikinis. And still, people make money by coming up with new bikini styles.
Why are bikinis important?
Most women use bikini as a way of showing their beauty and it is easy to wear and carry.
Are there any problems with bikinis? The other reason why bikinis are important is because many sports need bikinis because they weigh less.
There are some people saying “good girls don’t wear bikinis” thinking that its wrong, especially some Christian people, of course other religious people like Muslims and Jews. Others say that age matters. Plus, culture matters too.
How did the inventor come up with the idea?
Louis Reard was a car engineer, at the same time, he owned his moms lingerie shop. And there was a competition where designers had to come up with the smallest swimsuits, then he came up with the idea when saw women rolling their swimsuits to get more sunburn. Since then, most of the women started wearing bikinis.
What’s the difference between bikinis and the typical swimsuits?
Typical swimsuits are kind of closed, and bikinis are much more open. Bikinis are light and it can be worn as fashion at the beach, but the other one is worn mostly in the swimming pools, especially for the professional people.
In the late 90s, people used bikinis to win competitions. When it comes to voting, men mostly voted for the team who were wearing bikinis, even though they were not playing very good. Since then, a lot of sports teams started wearing bikinis, plus, like I said before, it weighs less; it is easy to carry around.

New “versions” of bikini:
Bandini
Tankini
Camikini
Monogyny

Inventions and Inventors: Evaluation

Evaluation
Adjustable Weight (dumbbell)
The overall progress went well, the idea also. I think that I did a good job, but there were some problems too. Such as following the plan, designing, writing the progress down and coming up with a product which is realistic.
Designing the product was hard because in my mind, I have only one design of a weight which is just a typical one, so I had to check a lot of things like going through the internet to find the other designs. I didn’t really copy the designs on the internet; since our product is different I just took ideas. Then, I had enough ideas so, it became easy make other designs, which made me come up with the perfect design, which was our final design.
Following the plan was hard to, especially when I lost my presentation and then I had to start it again, so we didn’t have time to finish it, so we hurried a lot, then we realized that we are done, so we managed to do everything down, but we forgot about writing the progress. So, we had to write the changes and progress after finishing everything.
To make everything better, I’d try to not lose things, because it is the main reason why everything went wrong. And the survey, I think I surveyed only few people, if I could survey more people and get more ideas, I probably would do better than this.
Our idea was really realistic and the same time unique because not everyone would like to do a dumbbell for handicapped people. So the function and the way the whole thing is set up is easy to understand and very helpful. And some people also tried to do the similar thing, but only our of rock and plastic bags which wont weigh too much, but still, it’s the same idea.
The presentation went well, I think. The reason why I think it went well is because we explained everything we needed to, and the whole idea was easy too understand. Some people actually gave really good comments and they liked it a lot, which was a good thing to hear.
The AOI for this unit is human ingenuity, since it a man made “creation”. Even though it was an invention, but we made it better and we enjoyed it. So we kind of developed the dumbbell in other words. So we think by this invention, life can get easier, and especially health.
So the unit went well, and we learned a lot of things, and are group work was great.

Design

Design
Design specification said that:
- Able to change weight.
- Comfortable to hold and use (especially for women and teenagers)
- Not so complicated to change weights
- Weights inside cannot move around, make noise, etc
- Not so sharp outside (might get hurt)
All of my designs must be blue, because recent scientific and psychological research said that blue room or just color makes the weight you are holding feel less heavy. The weights also come in sizes: thin, thick, small, big, and medium. The outer material is going to be rubber
My 1st design is the simplest one. It is round and bone shaped, which is easy for the person to hold. It is able to change weight and comfortable to hold. The specification says that it is not so complicated to change the weights, but the cap might be a little hard because you have screw it also, but this time, harder which is not so easy to do. The weights inside won’t make noise and it won’t move, and it is not sharp, which is good.
My 2nd design much better than the 1st one, because I realized that the weight will move if you put it down because it is round; So I made it hexagon shaped, but the handle is still round because if it would be hexagon shaped also, it will be hard to hold. And the weight which you put inside, can be hexagon shaped or round shaped, it doesn’t matter, but it has to be 0.5 cm smaller that the weight so that it can be able to put it in. And the cap is much easier because you just open it and close it, and it’s very tight. But the tiny little problem is that it’s a little bit sharp. But the rubber is ok, but the “body” might go through the rubber and come out.
My 3rd design is my best, I think. Because it is octagon shaped, and it is very easy to hold, because it has these specially shapes where you can fit your fingers, it doesn’t matter how big you fingers are. And the weights are round because if it had another shape, it would be hard to put it in. the design specification says ‘not sharp outside” but it’s not that sharp, the edges are not sharp, they are a little bit round.
My designs look small, but the actually size is big, like 3 computer mice. And for this kind of size, the highest weight might be at least 5.
My best “chosen” design is number 3, because it is like the improved version of the 1st and 2nd design. And it fits all the specifications.
